To the (A)AEL book version 2.2
Since 2021, this domain has been used to develop, in an iterative and incremental manner, an open and freely accessible online publication — or open educational resource — on the conceptual approach and framework known as Agile Educational Leadership in the Post-Digital Era (AEL for short). Since July 2024, the title of the approach and framework has been further developed in Version 2 to AAEL – Ambidextrous Agile Educational Leadership for the collaborative design of (higher) education in the post-digital era (AAEL for short).
For the AEL book — and, strictly speaking, now for the AAEL online book as well—Version 2.2 was finalized by 2025. A Version 3.0 is planned for release as a book in 2026. The AEL online book, Version 1.0, was completed in 2021. It remains available here in the left-hand menu as the now-archived Version 1.0.
A chatbot for the AAEL book (AAEL-Bot for short) has been set up. The AAEL-Bot compiles previous publications (as of February 2026) and uses this information to answer your questions about the conceptual approach and framework of Ambidextrous Agile Educational Leadership in the Post-Digital Era, Version 2.2. There is an icon on the left side of the homepage that you can click to open the bot.
While updated and new chapters will gradually be added to form a comprehensive Version 2, the current version will remain valid.
The conceptual development of the Agile Educational Leadership approach and framework in the post-digital era, as well as its further development in terms of empirical and theoretical foundations and its practical application in the context of (higher) education, are part of Prof. Dr. Kerstin Mayrberger’s research and development activities at the University of Hamburg.
The AAEL book is an outcome and product of the DUA project. DUA stands for the project title “Digitality and Ambidexterity – On the Professional Management of Change in Formal (Higher Education) Contexts under the Conditions of Digitalization” (see this transfer profile for a brief overview). The DUA project’s own website is therefore linked to this domain and serves as a productive and informative reference point for the AAEL book, as well as providing further project context. Through the overarching DUA blog hosted there and its comment function, users can stay informed about updates and engage directly with one another regarding the AAEL book.
You are invited to comment on the latest updates, ask follow-up questions, and share your ideas! We are happy to include constructive suggestions in the backlog for the AAEL book. Please keep the following guidelines and information regarding the editing process for the AAEL book — including its draft versions — in mind:
- What you see here is already an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) of the AEL book in the agile and incremental sense, which is available to you before completion (#done).
- Each new version of the AAEL book is given its own version number.
- The iterative changes, additions, and restructuring in the individual chapters of the online book are also marked at the bottom of each page with the date of the last update, and major changes are noted in a changelog as the next version, along with the date, to ensure transparency.
- For every new section of text, every major change or new item from the AEL book and its context, the DUA project, there is a corresponding post on the DUA blog with a comment function. If possible, please use this comment function for discussions, feedback, questions and suggestions.
- A blog post directly related to an online chapter with a comment function is linked directly under the respective text section in the AEL book and is also accessible via the RSS feed “News about the AEL book & the DUA project”.
- Comments on the DUA blog are moderated, so it may take a little while for comments and replies to appear. Comments that are off-topic will not be published.
- All your comments will be answered.
- In addition, you can also send feedback and comments directly by e‑mail or leave them directly on the relevant AEL posts via LinkedIn.
